The painting depicts a piece of fabric, held up at the top by two golden nails. It falls and folds onto itself in the lower third of the painting on what could be stairs, but the solid green background removes it from the context of its original surroundings.
Through green undertones in the fabric, which are complemented by the yellowish green of the background and accented by the gold of the nails, the whole picture takes on a calm look, despite the particularly loud background colour.
