Oil on canvas cardboard, 40x30cm, August 2019
This oil study shows an antique Japanese vase in front of a greenish-grey background, which is brightly lit up in the foreground and dulls down in the distance, creating a dark green gradient to the top of the canvas board. The vase has a wide neck, full body and a geometric relief design on the front at the thickest part of its body.
The individual reflective colours within the metal are exaggerated to be saturated oranges, blues and greens which are put down side by side, recreating the texture of bronze in a stylised manner, whereas the bottom half of the vase’s body is painted in muted, washed out tones.
