Oil on canvas cardboard, 40x30m, July 2019

The painting depicts an older man seated at a table, slouching down in his chair with a large coffee bowl and a packet of cigarettes. He is intently looking at someone to the right, outside of the painting. He is leaning back in his chair with his left leg crossed over his right underneath the table top.
The man is wearing glasses on his head and a summery white shirt with exaggerated colours, the temperatures representing light and dark without greying the shirt. He is also wearing brown shorts which expose his left knee to the viewer, his shoes not visible. The man’s skin is painted with saturated warm tones, the colour temperatures played up. This is very prominent in the face, the eyebrows and his three-day stubble, as well as his neck and collarbone.
The round table, which is only partially visible, and the entire background are in a dark, saturated green tone. On the right side of the background, a vaguely indicated room can be seen, where a sugar dispenser is sitting on a tall table. Only the bright figure and the objects surrounding him, the coffee bowl and its reflection, and the packet of cigarettes and the sugar dispenser are in very light shades, creating a strong light-dark-contrast. A warm-cold contrast can be found in the man’s warm, predominantly orange and red skin colour and the cool tones of his clothing, the objects and the surrounding neutral green.
