I had the desire to paint something that would allow me to focus on learning how to mix my colours with oil paint, and I picked the bronze vase because it had so many underlying colours I could try to capture.
The individual reflective colours within the metal are exaggerated to be saturated oranges, blues and greens which are put down side by side, recreating the texture of bronze in a stylised manner, whereas the bottom half of the vase’s body is painted in muted, washed out tones.
