I drew this in school where my art teacher, Herr Schulz, encouraged me to try out new materials and techniques, and gave me charcoal and graphite powder to draw with in any way I liked. It is one of my fondest memories of him. He is also the person who encouraged me to pursue painting
I mixed the graphite powder with water to create a paint mixture and used this as well as the loose powder to create shadows and surfaces. The gloomy mood of the drawing is emphasized by the duck’s lost profile and an imprecise vignette.
