I used to be a regular at a cafe near where I live. I sat down with two other regular guests while they were having a philosophical discussion and I took photos of the scene to paint it later.
The bright figure and the objects surrounding him; the coffee bowl and its reflection, the packet of cigarettes and the sugar dispenser are in very light shades, creating a strong light-dark-contrast. A warm-cold contrast can be found in the man’s warm, predominantly orange and red skin colour and the cool tones of his clothing, the objects and the surroundings.
